Warning: I write randomly and you may see a lot of typos or words which don't exist but I really cant be bothered.
I was a customer service representative in a call center for British Sky Broadcasting limited for a couple of months after I finished my M.sc in Cardiff and I had this Team mate called Nicole. She had this fine Dolce and Gabbana glasses which looked real chic and cute. There's something about a lady with recommended glasses especially when she is Hot. I called her geek once and Nicole took it so personal, she reported me to everyone. What I meant was: GEEK is the new CHIC. You hear about GEEKS and all that comes to mind is someone looking scruffy, large ugly glasses and infront of a computer.
The geeks are responsible for most of the luxury we enjoy in life right now. For business and or pleasure, some geek was ridiculed for that invention which you are enjoying at the moment. some were bullied and beaten up. Schooling in the UK made me remember the movies where you see the jocks in their jerseys and the cheerleaders in their barbie garb while the geeks... you hardly see them, or if you see them, they are at a corner looking so out of place and looking like GEEKS!!!
The geek is insecure with little or no friends. The only friends are fellow geeks. They created a virtual network to communicate with themselve and to update their ideas how people of ancient time used scrolls. They noticed this was pretty cool. They thought about creating a perfect image and profile whc makes them cool so other people will like them. This boosted their confidence and with time if u met them in real life and dint like them, you may have loved their mind... Social networks. This was a geek's outlet and preserve. Cool thing with these social networks is that you can create a perfect image of yourself and live a lie. I know people who have gone on dating sites and facebook in search of love and they found it. I've had some "Online friends" who I got to meet in real life who were still cool, while some were...wrong. (#NoteToSelf - Andy stop digressing).
Mihalis "Mike" Lazaridis, OC, O.Ont (born March 14, 1961) is the founder and co-CEO of Research In Motion (RIM), which created and manufactures the BlackBerry wireless handheld device. He is also a former chancellor of the University of Waterloo, and an Officer of the Order of Canada. he dropped out of University to start that company #GEEK
Mark Elliot Zuckerberg (born May 14, 1984) is an American entrepreneur best known for co-founding the popular social networking site Facebook dropped out of Havard #GEEK
William Henry "Bill" Gates III, KBE (born October 28, 1955) is an American business magnate, philanthropist, author and chairman of Microsoft, the software company he founded with Paul Allen. Dropped out of Havard #Geek.
The 3 people I just wrote about, I din't have to, I din't even know their dates of birth but I just got it off wikipedia and posted it up here to show that I did some research and I can be a Geek too... and that is what social networking has become today. All you need to do is google up some excellent research or facts and put it up as your status on any social network and people will think you are smart...That is stealing. Plagiarism is using someone else's intellectual property without referring to the creator = stealing. That's what I see on the Geek network which has now become Social Networks
But the cool kids with capitalist interests and the need for primitive accumulation of wealth (capitalism) got interested in this virtual networks whc evolved into hi5, myspace, facebook, twitter etc, stealing the geek's closure and pride and makin them insecure once again? You find people having larger than life images on twitter and facebook, the one's who are untouchable and can chat whatever crap, those who wanna be subliminal to the not so popular and have their fellows in the upper echelon laugh at others. These geeks who hid their faces are now being forced to shut up even on twitter and facebook.
I have over 3,000 friends on facebook and so I really don't have that closure I registered for, I cant say what's on my mind cos it may seem uncool and not nice to certain people. This made me flee from facebook to twitter where I can say whatever and won't be bothered about hurting the next man's feelings. In conclusion, Facebook was my social network while twitter was my geek network but of late, those Cool kids who I ran from have come to my geek network where I have to butter my words and speak responsibly. You wanna know the truth?
There is no truth, there is no right or wrong, we are a creation of the society's perspective and we will keep on trying to impress the world. It is in search for this acceptance that the geeks had their networks which are now the social networks... Be nice to them, be nice to people generally and most of all : MIND YOUR BUSINESS...
Damn I've lost track of what I was writing... TO BE CONTINUED IN MY NEXT BLOG: "Why I hate the word and people who say #GBAGAUN"
